Instead you have to do that stupid dodge the helibomber bit despite having a perfectly reasonable alternative that doesn't involve a stupid helicopter trying to bomb you). Not to mention the ronin final mission is just a massive pain(you can't drive to the pier, even though it's easy enough to do in time, because you're not hitting the checkpoints.

The two Ronin missions that require swordfighting are annoying, particulary because there is no stated reason you can't just shoot the bastard.

I do think SR2 is the best of the series but not without it's flaws. Never played 1 and I've heard I'm not missing much.

SR3 is full of over the top fun and the ability to go on tank rampages anytime you want and SR4 is SR4. SR2 is dark, has a lot of different activities and does a nice start for nothing and work your way up to running the city. I played the games in order and like them all for different reasons. other than Red Faction anyway, I've just never been a huge fan of that series. They're a talented studio, I agree that I'd love to see them do more 'serious' works alongside the wackiness that is Saints Row. This is also the studio that used to make the Descent and Freespace series, which were rightly praised for their story elements despite story having never been the focus of the series. Even in Saits Row 3 and 4 despite the absolutely bonkers premise the writing itself was sharp and well done. That said in regards to story it's a bit strange to think given the ridiculousness of some of their most recent titles but Volition are actually one of the better studios when it comes to writing.

I own the PC version and spent a few hours trying to get it running on my computer not long ago but couldn't manage it, just too many issues with the PC port of the game even with various fan-made patches and mods which have come along since its release. I've never been able to play Saints Row 2. Now, what do you think about that game? Have you played it? Did you like it? Why/why not? I really wish that some day I'll see another game like SR2 because while SRTT was great and all, they kinda ran out of ideas by the time they made SRIV and now I feel they're going downhill. It really wouldn't have hurt the exagerrated non-seriousness it was going for, only slightly changed its tone and made it more in vein of games like Postal 2. It puzzles me why they didn't keep it in The Third and instead made all of them to be something straight out of a Family Guy episode. Instead of being some kind of comedic, stereotypical goofball, all of them, especially the protagonist, were a bunch of sadistic psychos. SR2 had an overall much darker tone than SRTT, and the fair share of it were the characters. The cast of characters was also better in SR2 imo. Instead of being silly all the time, each gang's storyline started out as pretty mundane and standard, only to be concluded by absurd level of ludicrousness and an equally ludicrous bossfight with the leader, so you kinda felt like you had to work for all the crazy shit to happen instead of it being shoved down your throat from the very first second. Now that I mentioned it, I also must mention how different overall 'feel' the game had during the campaign. Why? Because now that the tone of the game changed completely, activities and diversions are just missions, instead of being the cool stuff you did to cool down after another heavy-handed plot point. Saints Row 2 was more grounded in reality, so all the humor and silliness in it were very distinctive, while in SRTT it was all happy-go-lucky, over the top shenanigans, which was good, but kinda lost its charm. I wonder why isn't it all present in the later instalments? Character customization is more advanced, allowing you to create more diverse characters, there's far more clothing separated into more layers, and there's far more options at Image as Designed, where you can choose such features as custom walking cycle and fighting style. With that being said, I have to say that I actually find some aspects of SR2 to be better than SRTT. Now, I'm not trying to bash The Third here - it was one of the funniest and most enjoyable games I've ever played, but I kinda wish Volition did more games like SR2.

I used to hate this game when I was a young teenager because I thought of it purely as a GTA clone (which, come to think of it, it is), but now that I replayed it and treated it as a game of its own, I found myself to be positively surprised - it's better than I remember! Also, it's so different from The Third, I wouldn't believe they both were from the same series if I didn't know it already. After 5 years and completing both SRTT and SRIV, I've decided to replay Saints Row 2.
